Mounjaro prices are set to increase from 1 September 2025. This change came directly from Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, and applies to all healthcare providers in the UK.

If you’re using Mounjaro, you’ll probably have some questions about the cost of your treatment and what it might mean for your weight loss journey going forward. You may also be thinking about switching to another GLP-1 medicine, like Wegovy.

We’re here to support you through your weight loss journey at every stage, and our team of clinicians can help you through any decisions you might want to make.

In this article, Dr Christina answers common questions about the price increase, alternative treatment options and how we’ll keep helping you to reach your weight loss goals.

Why has the price increased?

Eli Lilly has said that the price increase brings the UK in line with Europe and other developed countries. Healthcare providers and pharmacies across the UK, including Boots Online Doctor, access the medicine through wholesalers. This means when the manufacturing price changes, the price you and other patients pay can also change.

How much will the price change be and when will it come into effect?

There are six strengths of Mounjaro at different prices, and all will change based on Eli Lilly’s price increases. No prices will change before 1 September 2025.

All UK providers will be affected by these price increases.

I’m a weight loss patient on Mounjaro. What does this mean for me?

We always do our best to keep our Mounjaro prices as fair and accessible as possible, but we know it’s frustrating to hear that our prices will change. We’re reviewing our prices actively and will be in touch with you directly as soon as we have more information.

We also offer other weight loss treatment options, including Wegovy, which may be a more affordable alternative for some patients. If that’s you, we’ll support you throughout your weight loss journey, whether that includes a change in treatment or continuing with your current plan.

What’s the difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy?

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both weekly injection pens and work in similar ways to help with weight loss.

Both medicines work by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone (glucagon-like peptide-1), which tells your brain to let you know you’re full and slows down how quickly you digest your food. This helps you feel fuller for longer and reduces cravings.

Wegovy only works on GLP-1, whereas Mounjaro works on GLP-1 and the GIP hormone (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide). It’s proven more effective in clinical trials because of this, but it might not work for everyone – some people can have stronger side effects. And the recent price increases may also impact your decision to keep using Mounjaro.

Can I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy?

Yes. We can help you safely switch to a Wegovy dose that best matches your current Mounajro dose for a smooth transition.

Will I have to start again and have a break from treatment if I switch to Wegovy?

No, our experienced clinical team can guide you through switching to an appropriate Wegovy dose based on your current treatment. You won’t need to take a break or start from the lowest dose.

If you’d like to switch or want to know more, send us a message in your patient record and a clinician will get back to you. Or, complete our questionnaire.

What will happen if I switch?

Everyone responds to treatment differently. Most people find that they experience similar side effects on different GLP-1 treatments.

If you’re worried about your weight loss progress, keep in mind that weight loss plateaus and other changes are normal. Successful, long-term weight loss is about much more than just medicine – building healthy eating and lifestyle habits you can stick to is key while using the medicine to support you. Our service offers a range of support along the way, including a podcast, weekly webinars, a 10-week programme, exercise videos and more.

What’s the cheapest Mounjaro I can buy?

Avoid buying Mounjaro from unregulated sellers or black-market sources – it can be unsafe, counterfeit or ineffective. Prices vary between legitimate UK providers due to supply and service costs. Boots Online Doctor only supplies genuine, UK-licensed Mounjaro through a registered pharmacy.

Can I switch to Boots Online Doctor and stay on the same Mounjaro dose?

Yes. You can switch to Boots Online Doctor and stay on your current Mounjaro dose, subject to a consultation and review of your medical history.
