What is Zineryt?
Zineryt is a lotion used to treat acne. It contains erythromycin, an antibiotic, and zinc acetate, which promotes skin healing and may help control oiliness.
What is Zineryt used for?
Zineryt is used to treat mild to moderate acne. Zineryt can also be useful in the treatment of other inflammatory skin conditions, such as peri-oral dermatitis, and rosacea. Zineryt is safe to use if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

How does Zineryt work?
Zineryt works in two ways to help clear acne. The antibiotic erythromycin works to clear the bacteria that causes acne. The zinc acetate in Zineryt encourages healing and may help to regulate oil production.
How to use Zineryt?
Every morning and evening, gently wash and fully dry the affected area before using the applicator to apply to the affected area..
Do not use any other prescription skincare products while using Zineryt, unless this is on the advice of a healthcare professional.
It may take a few weeks before you notice any improvement. Note that each bottle of Zineryt should not be used beyond 8 weeks, as the active ingredients degrade.
Zineryt dosage
Zineryt comes in a bottle with an applicator top. Using the applicator on the bottle, apply enough Zineryt to cover the entire area affected by acne. You can use Zineryt on your face, back or chest.
Is it effective?
When used correctly, Zineryt can start to improve the appearance of skin after a few weeks. However, it can take up to six weeks to show any significant improvement.
What are the main side effects of Zineryt?
Side effects with Zineryt are rare, but you may experience skin irritation or a burning sensation when applying the medication. If you notice your skin drying out or peeling during treatment, we recommend using an unfragranced, non-comedogenic moisturiser.
Please read the Patient Information Leaflet for full details on possible side effects.
What else should I know about Zineryt?
If you are pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, you should be able to use Zineryt. You can breast-feed during treatment with Zineryt but do not use this medicine on your chest.
Zineryt contains the antibiotic erythromycin which is a different type of antibiotic than penicillin. If you have a known allergy to penicillin, it doesn’t mean you’ll also be allergic to erythromycin.
What are alternative acne treatments?
If you don’t want to use Zineryt, there are alternative acne treatments that can help. There are several different types of prescription creams and gels available which can be used alone or in combination with an alternative antibiotic tablet, depending on the severity of the acne. Combined contraceptive pills can also be helpful for some women who suffer with acne.

What are the non-drug alternatives to Zineryt?
If you don’t want to use Zineryt for acne, there are things you can do to improve your skin.
It’s still unclear if diet affects acne but there is some evidence that having a balanced diet may help. Make sure to drink plenty of water.
Try to avoid touching your face or picking or squeezing spots. This can cause infection, slow down healing and increase the chance of scarring.
Use a gentle, unfragranced cleanser with lukewarm water no more than twice a day. Avoid using oil-based make-up and cosmetics which can clog pores and make your acne worse. If your skin is dry, use an unfragranced, oil-free moisturiser
